what do they really need

The one thing that's interesting about people is that we sometimes over think very simple situations. Like with our dogs or cats and feeding them their "top of the line" food, or the meds that they are given. Same with horses, I’ve always thought that why do we give them all of these supplements. They’ve survived for the last millions of years without them in the wild. But that it's in the wild so there are some reasons go give them some supplements.

You know you're a horse person when...

if you don't get these you should at least get a laugh out of it .

1. You cluck to your car when you go up a hill.
2. Your horse's hair is in better condition than your own.
3. You refer to your car as "my portable tack room."
4. You are excited when your friend tells you there is a huge sale at the bridle shop, then you are disappointed when you realize they mean the bridal shop.
5. You have the vet's number but not your kid's pediatrician on your speed dial.
6. Your spouse can track dirt into the house all they want, but God help them if they muddy up the tack room.
7. Your house is a mess, but the barn is as neat as a pin.
8. Your nice clothes are the ones without horsehair all over them.
9. You have to go to your friend's wedding wearing riding clothes because you took too long at the barn.

picture this

ok think about this. your walking along and all of a sudden you realize your in the woods. which is somewhat odd due to the fact your far away from a woods like this. while you realize this you contiue to follow the path in front of you for some time until you come to a fork in the road. now which way(you clearly have no clue because you have no idea why you're here in the first place) but you choose the one you gut tells you to. so you continue and come to a clearing. in this clearing is a tree, a very oak tree with a meadow around it. it's very pretty with the sun shinning and all. on the other side of this meadow is the other end of the path you were just on. so off you go and continue you walk. soon you're back in the woods and enjoying your surrounding. then before you know it your back walking on the street or sitting in your room. now wasn't that a nice detour from the everyday.

life and environment

certian horses raised or grown in harsh climates or environments has developed a great resistance to those conditions. many breeds have developed this ability. like the wild pony's the Australian Brumby in Australia that were brough to the continent in sparatic shipments made to the continent.  only the fittest of the fittest survied in this environment. some horses even died on the voyage to the country. http://www.ansi.okstate.edu/breeds/horses/

general rules about horses

up until recent years many people have though (and some still do) that horses are simple  creatures. yes, in a sense they are but that's compared to humans. they actually quite well minded and quick learners. they also are very sensitive to their sorroundings and to how they are treated. to get a better idea of it go to this website and see for yourself.  http://hobby.rin.ru/eng/articles/html/26.html

what to feed?

a lot of people argue to what is the best feed to feed a horse. whether it be alfalfa, grass, or a combination of the two. either or has it's own advantages or disadvatages but so does everything i suppose.http://www.admani.com/AllianceEquine/Horse_Sense.htm and Mother Nature"s Design for Feeding Horses

money, money, and more money

everyone knows that money is the primary reason the world gose 'round. like everything, everything costs money. we as people like spending money on our selves. like with buying things from stores like GNC or stores of that sort. unlike most people we horse people(like myself) love to also spend money on our horses. this can cost a pretty penny considering that a container of joint supplement like Cosequin which is a rather high end supplement that wieghs 700g's or (1.54 lbs), and can cost up to $170 or so to as low as $80. which is a huge deal considering.
